{"id":1164,"date":"2011-07-26T10:44:28","date_gmt":"2011-07-26T18:44:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/katherinemalmo.com\/blog\/?p=1164"},"modified":"2011-07-26T10:44:28","modified_gmt":"2011-07-26T18:44:28","slug":"flying-ponies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.katherinemalmo.com\/blog\/2011\/07\/26\/flying-ponies\/","title":{"rendered":"Flying Ponies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Clouds\" src=\"http:\/\/katherinemalmo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/7\/clouds.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"458\" height=\"305\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Guest post by <a href=\"http:\/\/barbsproject.blogspot.com\" target=\"_blank\">Barbara Matousek<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>On our way in to town this morning, Sammy and I were talking about the clouds.\u00a0 We were winding along highway 35 between the Nathan Wolfe Memorial Wildlife area where Sam recently told me \u201cthings that suck your blood live\u201d and the Trempealeau Wildlife Refuge where Sam says \u201cthat funny duck with the big head swims.\u201d\u00a0 A half dozen white egrets stretched their necks to fish near the wild celery, and a few others sat in the crooks of a dead tree that reflected on the water.\u00a0 As our Subaru slowed to let a train clear the tracks in front of us and the bright sunlight behind us created dramatic whites and grays on the clouds hanging over the bluffs, Sam told me you can\u2019t move clouds with your mouth like you can the fuzzy tips of dandelions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClouds are heavy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are?\u00a0 How do you know that?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think they\u2019re really easy to move.\u00a0 You just have to get close enough,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n<p>The last car of the train bumped across the road and the red lights stopped blinking and the large semi in front of us slowly started moving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGo fast, Mommy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t.\u00a0 The truck in front of us is going slow and it takes a lot of energy for him to get started.\u00a0 Remember how hard it was for you to get your bike started when we were going up the hill last night?\u201d I reminded him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYah.\u00a0 That was hard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the same.\u00a0 Once he gets started we\u2019ll get moving fast, but right now he\u2019s got to work really hard to get going.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He thought a while.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMommy, we need to get a flying pony so we can go up into the sky and blow the clouds away,\u201d he said.\u00a0 \u201cIf we flew really super fast it would not be so hard to get them started.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This guest post, brought to you by my good friend, Barbara Matousek.
