Soon I will be a real life Wikipedia of child raising theories and strategies. This particular class recommends at least 15 minutes of child-dominated play per day. Seems easy enough but when they say dominated they mean <em>dominated<\/em>. (Oh, what the search engines will bring me for using that \u2018d\u2019 word three times\u2026)<\/p>\n<p>When it\u2019s time to play I sit down with her and do what I am told. I am allowed to narrate her play \u2013 Josie\u2019s picking up the red block, Josie\u2019s building a tower, nice tower Josie \u2013 like the water-cooler guy on Saturday Night Live. I am not allowed to ask questions or make suggestions. I am purely a follower and Josie looooves it.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how our playtimes go these days.<\/p>\n<p>Josie: You be the baby<\/p>\n<p>Me: OK<\/p>\n<p>J: Baby, ask me for some popcorn<\/p>\n<p>Me: May I have some popcorn?<\/p>\n<p>J: Babies don\u2019t talk!<\/p>\n<p>Repeat 3x.<\/p>\n<p>The end.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We\u2019re taking another parenting class.
